Grilled Corn Ingredients

Corn

For grilling, I bought and used fresh yellow sweet corn from the supermarket. I removed the corn husks for this grill day. This is optional; corn with husks is also great for grilling. It is also a popular method. I made and used a homemade marinade for the corn. On this grill day, I grilled only corn, then brushed fresh layers of the marinade onto the corn.

Marinade: Cilantro Vinegar Marinade

There are numerous types of marinades available at the supermarket. A few types of marinades include citrus juice vinegar, steakhouse, sweet teriyaki, and herb marinades. Making a marinade at home can be simple and tasty. Combine cooking oil, an acidic ingredient, herbs, and spices to create a delicious marinade. I made a simple and savory marinade. With a few ingredients, this marinade adds a burst of flavor to each corn.

For this marinade, cut and dice the vegetable ingredients. In a bowl, add the cut cilantro, garlic, and red onion, then mix with apple cider vinegar, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Mix all the marinade ingredients until fully combined.

The Grill

This is a homemade grill made with cement that was shaped into a small grill and then lightly coated with paint. This grill works as well as a store-bought grill from the store. I used charcoal for this grilling day. I also used a small grill grate over the charcoal. This helps to control the heat so the corn will not overcook.

After adding the charcoal and the grill grate, I heated the grill and then allowed it to heat up. Within a few minutes, the grill was ready for cooking. The corn was added to the grill. I turn the corn occasionally with a tong so that each corn would get cooked.

This grill is an ideal size for grilling a few food items at a time. It also heats up very well. In addition, the food gets cooked thoroughly. The corn did not take very long to grill. It was cooked to medium temperature within half an hour.

The Grilled Corn with the Marinade

The grilled corn was lightly charred after grilled. Once the corn was cooked, I let the corn cool before adding the marinade. Marinating the food prior to cooking is a common and popular method. For these grilled corns, I marinated them after grilling. This is reverse marinating; this adds freshly added flavor to the food; though it is optional, you can marinate before and after grilling.

I then added the marinade to each corn with a cooking brush. I coated each corn until fully saturated with the marinade. I set the marinated corn aside for a few minutes, allowing the flavors to fully saturate.

Thoughts

Corn on the cob is excellent for grilling. It is a summer staple in the United States and continues in popularity during warm seasons. The taste, simplicity, and availability make corn an ideal side dish for grill day. The combination of grilled fresh corn and a flavorful marinade makes it a delightful grilled dish to enjoy on an outdoor summer day.
